Donating ... why?
RICCARDO
Donating is a voluntary, very personal and intimate act that affects and involves us in our life of relationships and nobody should ever judge or question.
There are many reasons to donate: to get rid of something that we no longer use, because a friend of ours asked us to donate or just because someone asks us for a help.
It may not be easy to donate, sometimes the desire is not enough, it’s also important be sure that what we are doing is the right thing.
A gift is not only to help, that’s certainly true for those receiving, but it can be the beginning of a personal journey, getting in contact with the beneficiary and with ourselves too. It’s a way to question ourselves, to know, to understand and grow.
The gift is a waiver, even for those who can do it with ease, it means to devote a moment of our time to a cause and become a supporter. It’s an act of trust, it’s not compassion or worry but the way to be close to someone but at distance. It’s like being a fan for someone, a fan full of enthusiasm and empathy.
But above all, donating is an opportunity to know different realities, often critical and hard where the concrete contribution and willingness to put energy, ideas and passion make the difference.
We as Save a Life4Life, here at Mekellè, work with this spirit.
We share the exhausting and continuous dedication of doctors and nurses, we can see how difficult is to save a life in this environment, to save the heart of a child, of a girl or adult. How much pain passes before our eyes, how much time is dedicated, how much attention is paid to cure and sometimes none of this is enough.
We put daily care also to understand which is the best way to support the orphans of the “Day after day” and their families: if we give 10 kg of flour for a family that has almost nothing to eat we certainly give it a great help, but sooner or later 10 kg of flour end up.
That’s the reason why it’s important the gift can turns into trust and hope in life. The gift is not an end in itself, but it means being able to stand by people and try to help them in their daily lives to improve them without altering their lifestyle, their possibilities, their traditions.
And so to donate at distance becomes an important sign, personal and true, if we can see the reality that we support and have a correct information about what happens.
That’s also the reason for we stay here. We stay here and we would like to give you the chance to walk alongside us.
You donor friend, you are leaving maybe only a drop in the sea, but imagine your drop can fill a glass. Your drop is 10 kg of flour, but it is also the purchase of a bottle of Penicillin that can change the life of a child “branded” from infection to tonsils, that child if untreated can turn a healthy child into a cardiopathic for life.
Your drop is also much more… of infinitely important.
